"According to prosecutors, GS9 was a “criminal street organization” in Flatbush, with the investigation indicating that they operated from January 2013 until October 2014 and the crimes from the indictment carried out with the intent to maintain and defend territory against rival gangs such as Folk Nation and Brooklyn’s Most Wanted (BMW). Prosecutors also allege that GS9′s operations were funded by drug deals and that members used code words for guns (“tone” or “socks”), drugs (“crills”) and shootings (“suntan” or “scoom”). Authorities recorded 14 separate incidents where GS9 members fired weapons, sometimes in public places, and eight instances of members being arrested for weapons possession. Multiple shooting incidents are detailed in the prosecutor’s report. The first, from July 12, involved a 22-year-old woman shot in the neck in Brooklyn who was apparently standing in between Rashid “Rasha” Derrisant and Alex “A-Rod” Crandon and a member of the rival BMW gang.
