Random musing: At what point in history did English speakers in the world outside of England outnumber English speakers in England?

Going by the numbers in Wikipedia, the U.S. had passed England and Wales in population by about 1840. So presumably English-speakers outside of England outnumbered English-speakers inside of England at some point before then.
