On this week's episode of hilarious car + winter = fail moments, I had a completely flat tire a couple days ago. Two hours before, I drove and it was fine. I called AAA* and the guy filled it with air, and it still hasn't deflated at all. WTF, Wisconsin. Life is good, but I'm so over the car stuff. I loved not having one! But it's too cold to walk!
* I know I should be capable of changing my own tire, but I didn't sign up for below zero jacking and wrenching. My supervisor's theory is that someone let the air out of my tire. The neighbors hate us, but that seems... insane. - Lo
It gets cold, the tire shrinks, and the bead often loses the bond to the metal rim which is also shrinking in the cold. Common to lose air pressure in the cold and not all that odd to end up with a flat - WarLord
WarLord, that was what the tow truck guy suggested, but then he agreed that it seemed weird that the tire went from full to flat (down to the rim flat) during the morning in a couple hours. And just that one tire. It probably was the snow, and seriously - snow can do that? Winter is so diabolically evil. - Lo
yeah snow is evil but tire was likely low already. Tires lose lots before they show And I too have AAA there are no words to describe cold fingers slowly unscewing lug nuts covered in icy road slush.... - WarLord
It turned out there was a big cut in the sidewall or something. I bought a new tire. Just in time for snowmaggedon. - Lo
