One of the things I learned when I wrote a paper about the history of Medicare and Medicaid for my medical ethics class in med school is that a lot of the byzantine state and federal regulations in health care were instituted for the purpose of consumer protection precisely because of people pushing pseudoscience and quackery #SnakeOil
