Abby Martin: How Exceptionalism Fuels America’s Gun Massacres http://wp.me/p4T5qp-hI
"Today Gen Xers and Millennials are raised with unhealthy levels of entitlement, and despite the long dead American Dream, continue to assume that if they just “work hard” they too will become millionaires." -- I don't see the link anywhere between entitlement and gun massacres, nor even evidence for the claim that [Gen-X/Millenial] American entitlement is either substantially greater than entitlement among the same age outside the US or that entitlement of that generation is greater than, say, American Boomer entitlement. - Andrew C (✔)
I really think it is the guns. Americans aren't uniquely sick in the head (her "unhealthy entitlement" is basically a restatement of the "mental health is the cause" theory she rejects), but when other countries have had gun massacres, and they have, they usually respond by _cracking down on guns_. - Andrew C (✔)
Americans (of all ages) do have an exceptional and unhealthy entitlement to guns. - John (bird whisperer)
True. - Andrew C (✔)
(bump) Dunblane massacre: UK effectively ended private handgun ownership. Port Arthur massacre: Australia enacted strict gun control. US, various massacres: nothing. Yes, that's a kind of American exceptionalism, but it's not at all what Martin was talking about. - Andrew C (✔)
