I'm brainstorming on another business venture. We're looking to do something in the rental / subscription market. Have you seen anything cool in that arena? You know besides portable hot tubs, segways, etc.
There are some weird things out there. Like designer handbag rentals, jewelry rentals, wheel rims... - Ben Hanten
Funny you mention jewelry rentals. Last week, I got an email from a lady who wants to rent a necklace I made for her engagement photos. - Anika
It's a trend. People are interested in having / experiencing more things, but they don't actually care about ownership as much as they used to. We're in an area where sail boat rentals could do well. - Ben Hanten
And the purse thing makes a lot of sense -- good idea. Why spend $500 on a purse that's going to be out of fashion in a year? Instead have a different designer purse every time you're seen. https://www.bagborroworsteal.com/ui... - Ben Hanten
Anika, are you going to do it? - Ben Hanten
I don't know. The necklace she's asking for isn't that expensive, so I don't know why she doesn't just buy it. If I rent it, do I charge per day? Do I take the price of the necklace + shipping +10% and charge that, then just refund whatever? I don't know how to work it at all. I think it would cheaper for her to just buy the necklace. The fact that she's not local makes it all the more difficult. - Anika
Seems a little weird, Anika, but on the other hand you still own it, you get a little money, a little advertising, etc. - Ben Hanten
Rental rates are usually something like this (for smaller items): 3-5% of the retail for a day; 10% for a week; 20% for a month. Maybe just have her shoot you an offer. - Ben Hanten
That's a good rule of thumb. She wants to rent it for $30 flat. I pay shipping to/from. I don't think that's fair at all, but like I said, still working out kinks. - Anika
