i also see them next to feeds for my "imaginary" friends :-)

They are showing up on my imaginary friends...I'm assuming it means if I like them or comment on them they won't show up on my public feed.

Right. It indicates a private feed or imaginary friend. The practical upshot is that commenting or liking the item won't broaden it to all of your friends, and it gives you a general notification that the person might not want the contents of the item to be considered public knowledge.
