"I'd say "yes...and no." I do think, like you, that people will need representation in this system and a way to control and coordinate actions. But there are likely possibilities you're not considering when you speak of APIs. You're right that the current way we think of APIs requires that any given device know about every device it might interact with. That's how request-based responses work. But event-based APIs are better at encapsulating API semantics within the device or thing that publishes the API. Things still need to know and understand events, but that's a much simpler proposition." - Phil Windley
"That's cool. The outliner is a perfect editor for this kind of rendering engine. I like the separation of concerns and the ability to build useful tools out of small pieces that each do one thing well. Worked for UNIX and it works for the Wed. Bravo Dave." - Phil Windley
"That's a good observation. There's no reason all this has to be in the same place. You could imagine, for example, a blog with multiple writers who all host their own JSON for their own articles and it gets pulled and put together (with a house style) for a group blog. And as you say, there's no reason to keep the level of granularity at the blog post level. Could be paragraph level, etc. We do that with pictures all the time. No reason not to do it with paragraphs or sentences for quotes. Thanks!" - Phil Windley

"That's one of the reasons I like your solution: provides a way to use the storage of my choice. I could imagine hooks for S3 (already there), BittorrentSync, Dropbox, etc. and let the user choose where the data ends up." - Phil Windley

Re: Suggesting Changes to Google Places - http://www.windley.com/archive...
"Well, the nice thing about Google is it's different every month. This is all different from when I wrote this blog post a month ago. If you go to the Google+ page for the business (listed in the search listings next to "Write a Review"), you get the Contact Info pane. From there, click Edit Details. I think you can "Report something else" and then "Add a missing place" and add a Gas Station under category, but you have to enter a place name and address." - Phil Windley
