"Hi Randy,
Glad to see that you've come along on the CI discussion, especially now that the market consumed over $6B of it in 2014.
We are still in the very early days of HCI (less than 10% of the CI revenue in 2014); at Wikibon we put forth a vision of Server SAN which we believe gives some guidance as to where HCI can go and has strong potential to eat away at the traditional storage array market. If we look at Vblock, it started with a single model and now is a broad family, HCI will also mature and expand over time. HCI solutions to date have primarily focused on small-mid enterprise deployments, although some players are now doing larger deals and some options like EMC ScaleIO are geared towards Service Providers. The "fat middle" of the IT market has been underserved and lots of offerings (hybrid storage and HCI) are thriving there. Thanks for continuing the dialogue."
