I now have a child who passed the drivers ed test and can now get his learners permit. Yay, now we get to pay for more insurance.
When I failed my driver's test (parallel parking in a full-size Pontiac after learning to drive in a compact car), and then didn't bother getting one until I was 30...at some point my mother said something about the $thousands I'd saved them, and the worries as well.

Not that I'd recommend that course to any young person--unless, maybe, they're going to live somewhere like the campus area of Berkeley, where a car was mostly a liability.
