"In a landmark decision today, the Federal Court in Brisbane imposed a total of $15.75 million in penalties for contraventions of the Spam Act 2003 (the Spam Act), following the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s first court action taken against unsolicited SMS messages."

I dislike the fact that it is effectively a Government Agency that is going after these people... and spending tax dollars trying to stop it from happening. I think that the network providers should bare the cost as they are allowing it to happen... however having said that I guess I am then supporting the Movie and Music industry going after the ISPs and I think that is wrong. The difference is that the Movie and Music industry is a private company (or public) trying to regain lost profits =P.

"Start-ups iLike and LaLa will facilitate the new feature, which will enable songs to be streamed on the Google page that will also include a "buy" button. This will help reduce the number of steps fans need to purchase their favorite songs or albums."

"A group representing authors in China has accused Google of violating copyrights with its digital library, a claim that Google denies by saying the service complies with international law."
- Matt G
Delicious irony isn't it. Still you can't necessarily blame these authors for that. I am nothing if not fair I posted this the other day - http://friendfeed.com/gutt0...

"STUNG by the economic crisis, a brothel in Berlin has leapt on the "green" bandwagon and is offering discounts to clients who can prove they arrived by public transport or bicycle - with some success."

Yeah, but have they found out a bio-friendly way of getting rid of all those rubber condoms?

"The city of Stockholm shoots thousands of wild rabbits spread across the green spaces of the Swedish capital and sends their bodies to be burned as heating fuel, a practice which has enraged animal rights groups.
City official Mats Freij said Stockholm killed 6,000 wild rabbits last year and has culled 3,000 so far this year, but said a subcontractor decided to use the cadavers as fuel."

"I confess, my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, the latest version of Microsoft's Windows franchise, was just that: a copy.
I picked it up at a shop in a subway station near my house for 20 yuan, or less than $3 -- about the price of a bowl of soupy pork noodles available across Shanghai."
- Matt G
I assume you are not talking about *YOUR* copy of Win 7 Matt? But instead this is a quote from the article right? =P

"Google Inc said more than 2 million businesses now use its online office software, and the Web search leader is going global on Monday with an advertising campaign to lure customers away from Microsoft Corp and IBM products."

It is unbelievable and lucky that overheads lines are used in Melbourne rather than electrified tracks in this case. I mean obviously lucky for the position that the pusher falls, but would possibly be a different story if the tracks were electrified. That mother is going to be a complete wreck now.
- travispuk
She will be a wreck no doubt. But at least she will be able to get over it (hopefully). Luck is a funny thing, unlucky that it happened but incredibly lucky that it turned out ok.

You got two screens happening!? To a technophobe like me, that is like, WOW!!
- Con Christopoulos
I've got two computers on the desk at the moment which is silly but I just wanted to get it going. So the two screens are connected to different computers. I am thinking about hooking up the two screens to one computer, it is really easy and its free software to.

IS this a marketing stunt, an elaborate hoax or a bizarre attempt by one of the world's biggest food producers to protect an iconic breakfast cereal from imitators?
The British PR office for Kellogg's claimed on its Twitter feed today that it has succeeded in etching its brand into individual corn flakes so they stand out against any copies.

"ALL this time I thought Santa was keeping the list of the naughty, the nice, the sleeping, the awake, the happy and the sad.
But it’s not the jolly, bearded fellow that is keeping tabs on us. It’s not even a deity. It’s Facebook."

HELLO, hello, hello ... what's all this then? An arrested couple have been sprung having sex in the back of a police paddy wagon as it travelled down busy city road.
- Matt G
Brilliant... talk about doing it right under the nose of the law!
