Bachelor party for Doug Ricket in the woods last night. Got a palm pre this afternoon. Life is good.
Palm Pre has Sprint Navigation pre-installed. That's pretty cool, can't wait to try it out. Engadget seems to imply that it is completely free, but I'd be surprised if there weren't some monthly fee, perhaps with the first month free... - http://www.engadget.com/2009...
"Since most other smartphones of this class either don't come with on-board GPS navigation, or charge you for it, we felt it was notable that Sprint and Palm are giving away what feels like a very usable GPS app with the Pre. We used the software -- which does turn-by-turn / text-to-speech directions -- while driving from San Diego to LA, and it worked flawlessly." - Evan Parker
Plug-In Prius Coming This Year | Autopia | Wired.com - http://www.wired.com/autopia...
"Toyota Motor Corp. believes that, in response to the diversification of energy sources, plug-in hybrid vehicles are currently the most suitable environmentally considerate vehicles for widespread use" Finally! Not for consumers yet though, only for "corporate and municipal" customers at first :( - Evan Parker

The Google Maps API V3 - Google Maps JavaScript API V3 - Google Code - http://code.google.com/apis...
"Welcome to the release of version 3 of the Google Maps API. This JavaScript API will look similar to the existing version 2 of the Google Maps API. However, much has changed under the hood: Version 3 (called V3 within this document) has been designed to load fast, especially on mobile browsers such as Android-based devices and the iPhone™. The initial launch has a smaller feature set than that available in the V2 API. We will migrate additional features from V2 while working to keep the size of the JavaScript code small and maintain our optimized loading speeds." Launched at Google I/O. Congrats to Ben Appleton and the rest of the Maps API team on the launch! - Evan Parker
The android picasaweb photo uploader is cool, but I would really like a way to tell my phone to just upload every picture I take to picasaweb, perhaps only when it has a wifi connection. As is the picasaweb photo uploader takes 4 taps per photo which which gets tedious quickly.
I took a bunch of photos at the Maker Fair today and am trying to upload them. One. By. One. - Evan Parker
Finally gave up on that method and copied photos to computer using picasa before uploading to picasaweb. Added bonus: this method preserves the photo's location stored in the EXIF header by android. Uploading directly from android does not. - Evan Parker

Bing = Bing Is Not Google, following the long history of nerdy recursive tech acronyms (c.f. GNU) - http://thenextweb.com/2009... (via http://friendfeed.com/spicyto...)
@CodeMonkeyGirl =( hope you get better soon!
"Google Wave is an attempt to "combine conversation-type communication and collaboration-type communication," said Lars Rasmussen, who launched the project with his brother Jens after Google acquired their mapping start-up in 2004. It's a little bit Twitter, a little bit Friendfeed, and a little bit Facebook all in one service, allowing you to send direct messages to online contacts with real-time replies, share photos or documents, and add or delete members of the conversation as needed." Wow, I didn't think we would announce this so soon. Also, check out the demo video at http://wave.google.com/. - Evan Parker
I shared, this too, hehe. http://ff.im/3lb82 but dang, I was one upped with a link! Thanks Evan! - Chieze Okoye
Google gave away android phones (the slick new HTC Magic) to all 4000 developers who attended Google I/O today! The phone is completely unlocked and comes with a pre-paid sim card that provides unlimited data and thousands of hours of calls for 1 month. - http://www.youtube.com/watch...
The conference cost money to register ($50 for students, $300 early bird, $400 non early bird), so it's not exactly free, but that's still a damn cool gift IMO. - Evan Parker
wow man, that totally rocks!!! Wish I was there, and also a developer :) - Jacob
Wow. Very cool. Can't wait to see some of the new apps that come out of this. =) - Mandi
