When I recently traded-in my car I was sure I had the title (i'm very organized). Turned out, I didn't. The DMV had my registration and license plate info wrong in their system and told me they sent the title to someone else, with a different name, in a different town, with a different registration number. When I asked for a copy, they matter-of-factly requested a check for $50 (because that's what copies of your title cost). I bet we could quickly collect many stories of DMV insanity. In my case, their confusion was actually pretty reasonable. We went through a bit of a paperwork shell game, and everyone a necessary piece of the blunder. Stone soup snafu? - Seth
