It kills me, I really need extra halloween candy for a baking project tomorrow, but I have none. I know there's probably 400 pounds within 500 yards of me, but I don't have any way to get it.

(I'm not supposed to buy any candy, stipulation of the baking project)

I say find neighbour with kids. ask them when the kids aren't around if you can have some for said project. parents will probably be more than happy to swipe some

Too bad you can't hook up to the many parents I've heard complain that they bought candy only to get no trick-or-treaters this year.

there will be candy sales at the stores. often half off.

I was thinking of baking something & going trick or treating tomorrow, trading baked goods for non-handed-out candy, but I can't figure out how not to weird people out. The neighbors already hate us.

joe: she can't buy it! :)

I did think about that Joe, but it would be cheating. This is for a giant pie-sized cookie for the birthday of a guy I know who loves dumpster diving and other ways to get the most use out of things for the least money. To really follow the spirit of what he wants, I think I shouldn't buy anything for it, which is an exciting challenge that gets my baker chi flowing. But it would be nice to have a decent quantity & variety of candy to work with.

My first step was going to be putting little samples of all the candy on parchment paper & putting them into the oven to see what happens. Now I'm afraid this box of Dots I got at the bank is going to be all I have!
