One of my best friends lives on a Hutterite colony. He ran away at 18, built a good construction business, chased a bunch of women, and had a good life. But he went back. Had to give up his truck, house, tools, etc and be grounded for about a year. He just stopped in to say hello. His wife has just given birth to their first baby. Hmmmmm.....
interesting, I think that I would do the same, I mean everyone in the end just wants stability in their life - Cynthia Yildirim
When Jeremy decided to go back, he disappeared for a few days. He didn't tell me until he actually was already back on the colony, because he knew I would try to talk him out of it. - Ben Hanten
Hmmm... There is stability. But it really was the pull of family that got him back. He was banished from the colony except for one visit a year. He really missed his family. Now he's a high school teacher / German teacher. He doesn't even have a GED. He said most of the lessons come over a distance learning TV network and he just oversees the class. - Ben Hanten
I'm happy that he's happy. He's been married about a year and now he has a child. I just know this guy doesn't believe in the system and he's very unhappy with a lot of the politics and policies. It's too bad it's not a more open society, but I guess the point is to not be. - Ben Hanten
that's great - Cynthia Yildirim
I'm glad you think so.... I want to bust him out of there. - Ben Hanten
Jeremy came back today. He brought sweet corn and choke cherry wine in exchange for a bottle of Windsor. Now I know he really has been assimilated. - Ben Hanten
