Hi Kevin.
- Robert Scoble
By the way, Kevin, I never did find that file on my Mac to make Skype full duplex. Where the instructions said the file would be wasn't right.
- Robert Scoble

- Tina Chase Gillmor
Still no iBeacon Announcements
- Moe Glitz
might have been an ipod touch, mary
- Kevin Marks
yeah, sort of surprised about no iBeacon stuff yesterday
- Tina Chase Gillmor
I had one last year for salesforce, but it got stolen on caltrain
- Kevin Marks
Michael: nope. The stuff announced yesterday is just about making the Apple ecosystem nice and shiny.
- Robert Scoble
HouseKit is iBeacon based
- Kevin Marks
Big deal is getting the prodigal sons (Android users) BACK to iPhone.
- Halley Suitt Tucker
nope Halley, the switcher stuff is just that most phones are now android
- Kevin Marks
London's Regent Street is going head on with iBeacons in many of its stores there
- Moe Glitz
Man on the street wants to see some sexy hardware.
- Halley Suitt Tucker
could have been kevin..
- mary hodder
All in good time for the sexy hardware. What I want to know is whether Apple"s cloud efforts will "just work" this time.
- JSLeFanu
men like hardware. women like software. Halley?
- Tina Chase Gillmor
talk breathe talk breathe …
- Halley Suitt Tucker
nice to see my G3 co-hosts here!
- Tina Chase Gillmor

I think we should challenge the Gillmor Gang to show us their hats ;-)
- Tina Chase Gillmor

No Company out there can touch Apple's Hardware Quad Play of iPhone, iPad, iMac & MacBook. Plus of course it's Software Package of iOS & OS X
- Moe Glitz
their cloud is less strong
- Kevin Marks
True Kevin
- Moe Glitz
Maybe they should just buy Dropbox
- Moe Glitz
Kevin: getting stronger though.
- Robert Scoble
they tried at one point
- Kevin Marks
Dropkicked Dropbox
- Halley Suitt Tucker
that wouldnt be a bad idea except dropbox is deeply entrenched in amazon aws
- Chris Hale
3.99 for 200 gigs a month
- Tony Stanislawski
Moe - it's a compelling ecosystem for sure
- Tina Chase Gillmor
designing an information utility requires absorbing the creative colonies
- Arnie Klaus
Dropbox penetration in the real estate market.. bankers, lenders, realtors, ins. agents etc is powerful
- Frank Paynter
I've heard that about real estate
- Halley Suitt Tucker
+1 Robert
- Frank Paynter
No they had others in place of Icloud
- Tony Stanislawski
Has iCloud solved it's reliability issues? After you see a few people lose all their contacts and business data.. it makes you wary.. i've seen 5 in the past 2 years.. so i wasn't inclined to use it.. just got my own personal cloud.
- mary hodder
Project Loon hiccups
- Moe Glitz
I haven't had any troubles with iCloud Mary, but then I do a LOT of synching with Google stuff anyway.
- Robert Scoble
Duck Duck Go sits on Google - but it's a different brand.. at least.
- mary hodder
Mashable, Lance Ulanoff: "When Apple listed all its HomeKit partners, one name was notably missing: Nest."
- Halley Suitt Tucker
Google bought them so...
- Tina Chase Gillmor
My opinion on what is dissapointing not to hear from Apple is still a position on payments
- Chris Hale
Why did NIKE bail on health wearable?
- Halley Suitt Tucker
The device is your voice and finger. The systems are in the background
- Arnie Klaus
because its very far from a core competency for them
- Chris Hale
unless.... the watch is a phone
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Getting into a pissing match with Square … is that smart?
- Halley Suitt Tucker
"Don't leave home without it!" -- cash, that is.
- Frank Paynter
because the phone does the tracking. they may well go back to building into shoes later
- Kevin Marks
Surely the Payments and iBeacons Demo's will be shown at the iPhone 6 Keynote
- Moe Glitz
as usual I agree with Robert +1
- Chris Hale
That's Hollywood "continuity" :)
- Halley Suitt Tucker
like google voice has done for 5 years
- Kevin Marks
I pay with my phone all the time
- Kevin Marks
Perhaps Home Services will be featured in the next version of Apple TV
- Moe Glitz
They are describing a system by providing present day tools. The framework allows for many shapes and sizes
- Arnie Klaus
New iPhone will be solar powered … just kidding
- Halley Suitt Tucker
My watch is solar powered
- Frank Paynter
Halley.... Hollywood Steve
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Yup
- Halley Suitt Tucker
which will be ages for me...
- Kevin Marks
but it is there in Hangouts/gtalk and FB messenger
- Kevin Marks
Has gillmor gang ever had a younger guest host?
- Chris Hale
yes, recently
- Kevin Marks
Chris yes a month ago.
- Robert Scoble
ah, i think i remember who it was .
- Chris Hale
So Apple has driven out RIM... buh-bye blackberry, but what does that have to do with the enormous global power of android?
- Frank Paynter
swiftkey is awesome!
- Chris Hale
Steve Jobs was not missed this time --- T or F? I think his saintly reputation has been dragged through the mud in a number of legal cases showing him to be a price-fixer, law-breaker and a butthead lately.
- Halley Suitt Tucker
flesky is the other keyboard they mentioned
- Chris Hale
Robert, is that a zipper on your shirt?
- Chris Hale
+1 Kevin
- Frank Paynter
Chris yes it's a ScottEVest shirt with lots of pockets.
- Robert Scoble
awesome. I might have to look into that. I was wondering what one puts in a pocket that high. Made me think of that movie napolean dynamite. Great place to hide some tots
- Chris Hale
Phil Schiller wasn't missed
- Kevin Marks
Google product yanking and dumping makes me NOT want to trust the Google ecosystem. When's Google+ biodegradinb
- Halley Suitt Tucker
Following Scott on Facebook has been a part time hobby in itself...thanks robert! :)
- Tony Stanislawski
or since you are a cali resident, maybe granola?
- Chris Hale
Apple yanks too. I still distrust them over iDisk
- Kevin Marks
And that annoyed me on Android with Twitter
- Tony Stanislawski
Exactly Dan!
- Tony Stanislawski
+1 Kevin. I agree with your stance
- Chris Hale
Reader is the biggest yank of all time. Carpetbag a niche, dominate it so completely most of the competition shrivels up and then one day just grow bored of it and run for the hills.
- JSLeFanu
+1 Kevin
- Frank Paynter
Save it to Pocket in Tweetbot then
- Tony Stanislawski
Everybody has preferred workflows
- Tony Stanislawski
Tony: exactly.
- Robert Scoble
Last time I upgraded my Adobe suite I was impressed with their effort to drive me into their cloud consumption habit...
- Frank Paynter
A lot of the features announced really seemed like direct copies from android
- Chris Hale
much more than in previous years
- Chris Hale
many of which were themsleves copies of IOS jailbreak apps/hacks
- JSLeFanu
Mobile has extended the web experience, not broken it (in my opinion)
- Frank Paynter
Frank: I agree.
- Robert Scoble
Agree with frank. I will use a Scoble word, mobile helped make the web a lot more contextually relevant
- Chris Hale
It is very much Python like
- Tony Stanislawski
Apple's WebKit changed the whole Mobile Web Experience
- Moe Glitz
I would rephrase that and say apple's implementation of webkit
- Chris Hale
Which Google followed
- Moe Glitz
Robert posted that earlier on FB but nothing was said about this yesterday.
- Tony Stanislawski
much more Go-like than python-like
- Kevin Marks
totally agree with Kevins last comment
- Chris Hale
i dont like the idea of lock in with apple as a service provider backend
- Chris Hale
+1 Chris
- Frank Paynter
i think it has a good chance of failure imho because of apples track record with hosted services
- Chris Hale
Metal looks pretty heavy
- Moe Glitz
mobile me, imessage, heck even siri
- Chris Hale
Ive done devops for a few years and can appreciate autoscaling and dynamic architectures but I am not sure apple has the chops to handle that
- Chris Hale
Swift = efficiency
- Arnie Klaus
at least based on past performance
- Chris Hale
that is the question, chris.
- Kevin Marks
sort of like the move from green screens
- Jerome Hughes
I also am a mobile app developer and server side developer and my opinion is restful based services that arent locked to a single vendor are the real key that will continue to power peoples mobile apps. I think some folks especially small apps will probably use apples cloudkit thing but I don't think anyone who is building any type of cross platform app or web/app hybrid ecosystem will bother with cloudkit
- Chris Hale
immersion
- Arnie Klaus
Interesting Chris
- Frank Paynter
Dan has it pegged
- Tony Stanislawski
iBeacon = Kleenex
- Frank Paynter
Thank you #Frank.
- Chris Hale
That tell you all you need to know...LOL
- Tony Stanislawski
Google has far better voice. maps
- Arnie Klaus
Unlimited cloud storage for consumers from Google probably
- Tony Stanislawski
Imagine a new Knowledge Navigator style video to show those seamless transitions from work to car to home
- Jerome Hughes
and they are not really running Googles vision of Android either
- Tony Stanislawski
OT: Looking at the schedule at Google IO, my gut tells me Sergey Brin is going to come out and say, "Google+, so that happened..."
- J.C. Bouvier
the boys are fighting again. Honey!
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Google's Hardware is not as good as Apple's for being everyone's Smart Assistant
- Moe Glitz
AOSP is already as big as Google Android
- Kevin Marks
who's going to be MC at i/O now vic is gone?
- Kevin Marks
what bothers me about apple delving into other physical devices and google for that matter is that I don't like the notion of being locked into the idea of buying a car(for example) that is only compatible with IOS . I really havent seen anyone talk much about what the future of device lock in based on ecosystem looks like for these alternative devices
- Chris Hale
Some evidence? http://bgr.com/2014...
- Frank Paynter
I was surprised how much Bing was in the WWDC keynote...
- J.C. Bouvier
Desperation
- Moe Glitz
Samsung rulz
- Frank Paynter
Samsung's software SUCKS.
- Robert Scoble
Is the Android fragmentation issue really an issue?
- J.C. Bouvier
Chris: both Apple and Google want to lock you in.
- Robert Scoble
iOS fragmentation is an issue
- Kevin Marks
Well Google tried to muscle device makers in the past to require them to keep there device OS'es updated to 2 years and that didnt amount to much action
- Chris Hale
G+ has never had a good dev story JC
- Kevin Marks
Apple = the unicycle, Google = the jetpack ??
- Frank Paynter
Unicycle is a lifestyle vehicle
- Frank Paynter
I agree with you Robert. This is a real interesting thread of thought though. I am interested to see where does this place a hardware company who wants to make a piece of hardware
- Chris Hale
hilarious USA Today headline this morning - Apple takes on Android
- Jerome Hughes
i am guessing hardware makers will have to support both OS'es
- Chris Hale
long dreaming skunkworks
- Arnie Klaus
ooops
- Tina Chase Gillmor
;-)
- Tina Chase Gillmor
Robert's comment about apple and privacy is kinda funny to hear as Apple got overshadowed this week when some folks in australia reporting someone using apple's find my phone feature to extort people and threaten to wipe there phones
- Chris Hale
Kevin - I'm not seeing them tell any G+ story there, but I hear you...
- J.C. Bouvier
Chris: if there was someone who should be threatened, it should be me. I bet those people used lame passwords.
- Robert Scoble
like Snapcaht
- Tina Chase Gillmor
I love the fake low depth of field in google's new camera
- Kevin Marks
Kevin, will give your post a read...W/a quick glance I see your point, but to Steve's point, w/the web being deprecated; and Mary Meeker's use #'s on mobile backing that up - won't Apple just clone a Facebook style version of the deep linking methodology and call it a day? I'm probably oversimplifying...but the issue you're referring to isn't an issue in my use cases, and I think I could safely be called a power user.
- J.C. Bouvier
I am really starting to think that apples strategy of melding mobile os and desktop os are very much on the verge of completely bluring the lines between mobile and desktop
- Chris Hale
I hope Apple do fix that
- Kevin Marks
i think that new programming language is at the heart of it because now that it will be easier to write apps with, I think it will open up mobile app developers easily transition between writing something on mobile as well as an actual desktop app
- Chris Hale
audio/video editing is a weak point of the web
- Kevin Marks
I pondered it yesterday when I logged into my IOS developer account and they are now letting me download betas of the new OSX. They used to reserve that privilege to only developers who pay for the Mac developer program
- Chris Hale
seems like they silently extended that privelege to us IOS devs
- Chris Hale
agree with Dan. I don't see that as a big problem for people
- Chris Hale
Kevin re. A/V d'you like http://www.avs4you.com/ ??
- Frank Paynter
Heavy front end seeding
- Arnie Klaus
Dropbox solved this problem a long time ago
- Chris Hale
dropbox annoys me too
- Kevin Marks
Kevin, agree on the storage from Apple, it's $12 a year for 20GB - all only so they can get your credit card # on file...
- J.C. Bouvier
Buy an iPod Touch to run the beta on
- Kevin Marks
+1 J.C.
- Frank Paynter
I have been debating on whether to install the beta. I have the install file downloaded but just havent pulled the trigger
- Chris Hale
+1 Robert - I was very surprised to see Apple support iPad 2 w/iOS 8....
- J.C. Bouvier
I wasnt surprised about the ipad 2. Since they are upgrading the Iphone4s i figured the ipad2 upgrade made sense
- Chris Hale
ipad becomes another wifi
- Arnie Klaus
Great show!
- Arnie Klaus
Very good show this week! Kevin Marks you and I think a lot alike. Your points almost always matched my thoughts at the exact same time
- Chris Hale
aha chris - must be the dev perspective
- Kevin Marks
Yes, dev perspective but also a tech enthusiast like you and the rest of the group
- Chris Hale
Thank you for the interesting discussion.
- Ann Greenberg
Can Apple, such a secretive company, ever get the cloud right? I have my doubts.
- Ann Greenberg
thanks to all, nice tweet tweet audio exit, frustrating gaps watching on train, look forward to complete recording
- Jerome Hughes
Ann, I agree with you. I have had enough experience in the industry and with certain units within apple to really dont have faith they are really up for building a reliable cloud service
- Chris Hale
not to mention every time they have some sort of outtage it gets magnified by publicity
- Chris Hale
