Verizon. - Robert Scoble
No Chinese overdub please - Kevin Costain
Today is the day before tomorrow!!!! - Kevin Costain
did you see on apples site on the spec sheet it didnt mention nfc on the verizon and tmobile iphones - Chris Hale
@Chris, I also noticed those phones didn't have 802.11ac.. was that true? - Kevin Costain
Steve will get the bedazzled edition! - Chris Hale
We are restarting. - Robert Scoble
Cause we don't wanna be "f**ked." - Robert Scoble
Square is.. uhm square. Sorry, the watch (edit) looks like shit. - Kevin Costain
haha - Chris Hale
i think curved look of iphone 6 will lead to a lot of dropped phones - Chris Hale
before any rebuttles , I don't believe phones should have cases. - Chris Hale
The watch is pretty nice looking: http://www.apple.com/watch... Yes, it can be better. - Robert Scoble
Question; How does Apple make money with Apple Pay? - Kevin Costain
@kevin, they don't - Chris Hale
its more for the user experience for paying for things as a tactic to immerse you further into the ecosystem - Chris Hale
@chris - how would you protect the you $800 investment without a case? - Kevin Costain
I have been a huge fan of the new generation of glass screen protectors. - Chris Hale
I am unafraid of scuffing up the back of the device. I would rather a thin/pocketable device than a thick device that sticks to my pocket and makes it very uncomfortable to walk around with - Chris Hale
The lack of commentary on watch battery life - what does that mean? - Josh Bradshaw
Kevin: by selling you a new phone and watch. I can just see something like "At the Olympics you can use an Apple Watch to Pay but you can't use Moto 360." - Robert Scoble
The thing is, these devices are becoming worse for scratches. i look at the Apple Watch.. and in a week I see that thing scratched to shit. - Kevin Costain
well luckily the bands look replacable - Chris Hale
I think the watch screen is sapphire i think. - Chris Hale
Ahh.. Scoble.. exclusivity. - Kevin Costain
Apple can make money on Apple pay - Tony Stanislawski
Kevin: fashion. :-) - Robert Scoble
Robert, i think the whole apple pay eco system wont have exclusivity for contactless payment for very long. I am guessing android will catch up quick. - Chris Hale
Also, no commentary on Watch battery life and almost no commentary on any sort of waterproofing. - Kevin Costain
Hope Tim Cook ate his hat, by mocking Android a year or so ago... 'bumping phones together, is silly, try ibeacons'... Still waiting for ibeacons to make major inroads... - Petr Faitl
I think the direction they are steering the ship will shift the whole industry in the right direction . I think the announcements today have finally solidified the movement to NFC as the next generation payment platform - Chris Hale
Anybody else notice they didnt mention any specs at all on the Watch today? - Chris Hale
or did i miss that part of the choppy video? - Chris Hale
Paywave from Visa uses NFC - http://www.visa.ca/en... - is Apple Pay going to plug right into this ecosystem with little or no change? - Kevin Costain
Chris: specs don't matter. But there are plenty on the Internet. - Robert Scoble
It was nice to see a return to the positive Apple focused on its products, rather than trying to slam others. - Ian McGee
we are bad at remembering history - Tony Stanislawski
@Tony .. WTF.. ? haha - Kevin Costain
Robert, I agree about specs in this category not really being that important but battery life and wifi and a few other things would have been helpful - Chris Hale
Today was a 'me too' day for apple. 'Unparallel' it was not. 2 iPhones is about sticking more SKUs into the market place trying to crowd it out. - Petr Faitl
@Chris - that was on purpose. If they offered those specs, that watch would look even worse. - Kevin Costain
there were a few things i really didnt like on the watch. The circular icons with differerent sizes and colors made the watch look like the screen had a weird lookin chicken pox look to it - Chris Hale
Is Scoble still getting the watch? - Tina Chase Gillmor
I want to know more about the walkie talkie feature - Tony Stanislawski
Who wants to bet the next Ipad will have NFC built into it and will possibly be a competitor to Square and other credit card readers - Chris Hale
For a company the made devices (iPhones) that contributed to us abandoning watches, why would they make a phone? - Kevin Costain
Yes. - Robert Scoble
I keep writing phone when I mean watch.. haha. - Kevin Costain
Taptic - Ian McGee
taptic engine - Chris Hale
Hiya - Ian Waring
"Not a content creation device!" - Kevin Costain
I wonder if passbook can be used legally for driver license - Tony Stanislawski
@Tony, not yet but I wonder how long it will take state goverments to adopt phones for ID's - Chris Hale
Square was quick to jump on Apple Pay support - had a story up on Hacker News right after the presentation - Ian McGee
Thing that got me was the infra red sensors under the watch. One of their hires is a specialist at measuring blood sugar levels using a non invasive, infrared sensor on the skin surface - Ian Waring
what was the synopsis @Ian? - Chris Hale
And, with fines going up for in-car phone use - what does this mean for driving with a connected Apple Watch? - Kevin Costain
Bluetooth between the Watch & iPhone? - J.C. Bouvier
@JC probably - Chris Hale
I wonder if this means American express will be in more places if it is your default card - Tony Stanislawski
The watch apparently senses some of its context, lighting up when the wrist is lifted. It also opens up a lot of contextual applications, now we know the location but we also know the heart rate when someone is in an experience. - Josh Bradshaw
It's actually really personal. This morning I was describing watch to a non-techie friend and as soon as I told about 'Haptic notifications' which I described as 'feels like a tap on wrist to notify you', I could see the excitement in eyes regarding the ideas popping about what normal person would like to use it in personal context.. - Satyajit
2 lines in the API gives Apple Pay support through Stripe (not Square sorry). Pitch was if you support Stripe now, it's trivial to support AP by iOS 8 launch. Decent strategy I thought. - Ian McGee
Wow, just found out you guys were here! - Tom Guarriello
@Tony, that is awesome... - J.C. Bouvier
I wonder if this canabalizes apples in app purchase platform. - Chris Hale
Apple has the money too to get these into stores - Tony Stanislawski
I am hoping it does. I really hated how apple has handled in app purchases or subscriptions or payments - Chris Hale
Would like to see some sleep monitoring for a comprehensive health offering from the watch but didn't see anything on that. My guess is it has to charge every night. - Josh Bradshaw
Certainly has a retail footprint to help drive it...and if banks see the value in the increased security of TouchID, they'll drive adoption...and Apple indeed may have just cornered the market on payments... - J.C. Bouvier
@Josh, i found a really cool device on kickstarter i backed recently that I really think is a good solution for sleep monitoring. - Chris Hale
@ChrisHale do share - Josh Bradshaw
I really, really like the concept of this device. I think it can do stuff like record audio when it detects sound at a certain threshold - Chris Hale
Taptic...brilliant new word - Tom Guarriello
With the demo they said it can store music, etc - Tony Stanislawski
The other thing they said is the App developers can push the processing and reduce the power used on the watch to the phone... - Tony Stanislawski
Who here will be shelling out $349 for the Apple wristwatch? - Tina Chase Gillmor
Hand raised here, Tina - Tom Guarriello
349 for watch and more for straps.. :) - Satyajit
At this point - No chance I'll buy the Apple watch. I'm in for the 4.7' iPhone 6 - Kevin Costain
Not me. I have a decent multi-sport watch and it suits me much better. - Petr Faitl
Only 48% of iPhone users have a phone that will support the watch, so for most it will be much more than $349 - Murray Macdonald
@Satyajit $749 for the gold version :) - Kevin Costain
I dont know if i am going to buy one . I am a developer and I kinda think i will probably have to buy one either way. - Chris Hale
Actually, I know I'm in for 2 - Tom Guarriello
I imagine the sports band is most economical - Tina Chase Gillmor
Most of that money is offshore... - Ian McGee
Things may change until the watch is released. They may change this product drastically. Make it more compelling. - Kevin Costain
Wow, Benedict made a phenomenal point - Chris Hale
The music labels HATE iTunes, so the Film Industry may be extra cautious about licensing to Apple. - Murray Macdonald
I think it wont take long at all for Android wear to make a wearable that competes really well with this watch - Chris Hale
@Benedict whilst that might be the case (at the moment), shareholders might be looking at Apple to bring more revenue and it might be the next logical step to go. Virgin was once a record selling company... - Petr Faitl
Anybody look at the apple video today and think that this payment platform will put a ginormous dent in Paypal? - Chris Hale
Those rights are enormously expensive, Keith - Tom Guarriello
Credit Card transactions cost a percentage of sales. Bank Card transactions cost $0.10 In countries other than the US (Canada and Europe) we've had secure Chip-And-Pin transactions for many years. Most purchases are made using Bank Cards, not Credit Cards. - Murray Macdonald
I think I want to get a watch. I want to experience how the form-factor works with me. I want to see what's missing, and where my imagination takes me after the experience - Tina Chase Gillmor
@Chris there certainly are folks at Paypal who would have spent the afternoon discussing precisely that. This is a challenge in the space they are trying to maintain control of and build out. - Josh Bradshaw
@Tina, your imagination is going to take at least $349 out of your pocket :) - Kevin Costain
Me too, Tina. It's a new category. I have a Pebble and it was pretty disappointing. I want to see what Apple does with the device. - Tom Guarriello
U2 is over - Tom Guarriello
Interesting it was Eddy Cue that presented the Apple Pay stuff. Signs that Beats likely is taking over the music side. - Ian McGee
I'm with you Tina, want it. Want it the first day. - Josh Bradshaw
@Kevin $749!!! :O but yea if it's available, though strap choice would be limited, can't pair gold with metal strap.. .:) - Satyajit
Read Lefsetz on this U2 appearance http://lefsetz.com/wordpre... - Tom Guarriello
I love the metal watch bands ( I think) but Im sure I'll start with the low end - Tina Chase Gillmor
@josh I very rapidly envision a world where i can touch my watch or my phone to a friends phone or watch and seamlessly and securely give them money. Since credit card and bank companies compete on features like purchase protection or fraud prevention i feel like the usefuleness of what solution paypal used to fit is negated in a real big way - Chris Hale
@Tina I want a metal one for going out and I want one for fitness. - Josh Bradshaw
@Chris, outside the US you can do it with your phone, no touchy feely needed. @Scoble can do it in Australia. Loved that when I lived there. - Josh Bradshaw
I think this the first time that the highest-end iPhone isn't going to be the best seller. - Kevin Costain
I wrote a quick blog article today about my thoughts on the Iphone 6 and one of the things i thought about that was really cool was the notion of possibly finally getting ATM machines that use NFC for authentication. I can't wait for that transition to occur - Chris Hale
Well said, Keith - Tom Guarriello
I also had the thought that i would like to have a nice band - that the clasping area is cool because I can see that I might wear my watch facing the inside of my wrist. you know, where you turn to look at the watch face on the inside of your wrist - Tina Chase Gillmor
Do share @Chris - Kevin Costain
$299 iPhone 6 w/64GB is the sweet spot for sure... - J.C. Bouvier
I wonder if the 16 GB iPhone 6 will have so little memory that it's unusable? - Kevin Costain
Here it is. Its just a humble nerds first reaction. Please ignore the rest of the site for now, I havent had time to clean it up http://ninjaenterprises.net/apple-i... - Chris Hale
Ha ha... - J.C. Bouvier
Yayy we got our shout-out. ;-) - Ian McGee
Tx guys, nice convo as always... - J.C. Bouvier
I'd love to know the average age of GG chatroom! - Tom Guarriello
Whoo hoo! - Kevin Costain
41 years young <-- - Kevin Costain
@Tom I am 33, about to be 34 :( - Chris Hale
67 year old senior, here - Tom Guarriello
@Scoble, like seeing you standing at your new desk - Josh Bradshaw
28 :) - Satyajit
50 - Ian McGee
38... - Petr Faitl
I'm not sayin' - Tina Chase Gillmor
Set my alarm for 3am (EST) Friday morning :/ - Kevin Costain
@kevin, id love to here your thoughts on my brief little article. I am just starting to blog and if people like the content, i will probably start doing articles more frequently - Chris Hale
No worries @Chris. I will get back to you on that. I'm also a blogger, so I know where your coming from I did the same today regardign the event: https://cwl.cc/2014... - Kevin Costain
@Chris Hale NFC for ATM is quite unlikely. I cannot see the banks allowing this to be used for more than the current NFC tech, i.e. small purchases up to $80-$100. - Petr Faitl
Thanks @kevin. - Chris Hale
@Petr, I feel like with the problems with card skimmers and now flir infrared able to read finger presses on atm machines, the banks need to step up security on ATM's in a big way. You could be totally right that banks wont have this tech on ATM's but I have already seen atm makers experiment with things like QR codes for 2nd factor auth on ATM's - Chris Hale
But honestly this is all just me theorizing use cases for this technology. Time will tell what ends up happening - Chris Hale
Great show tonight! Gotta head out. Very lively debate! - Chris Hale
So, first.. the one thing designers always bitch to me about. "The font is too small". I can hear a designer saying that about your blog. I like your point about cases and designed phones.. it make sense. And, it bring something new to the discussion. I know you mentioned it here in the chatroom - but if I were reading that for the first time, I'd stop and thin "He's got a point". Oh, about the screen sizes. I think we'll see the 5s "small" live on for some time. Say goodbye to the 5c. There was a typo in the VOLTE paragraph when you say "now longer", you probably mean "no longer'. Interesting point about IoT.. You're probably right there. I like it. Great thoughts. Your points are interesting and make sense. I'm now curious about why you think Apple has lost its mojo :) - Kevin Costain
@Petr - using a phone + touchID to do small withdrawal transactions would probably aid the bank in cutting losses from skimmers. Phones (apps) are starting to catch on for cheque deposits too. I think the most common ATM transaction has to be a quick, under $100 withdrawal. - Kevin Costain
coda: NFC is the new GSM. - clive boulton
