I think you experience much greater weather extremes than we do in London - often the difference between summer and autumn is just shorter day :)

The last few years we had a very mild fall with relatively warmer weather right before winter. Just not warm enough to continue summer activities. It's when cutting trees, splitting logs and winterinzing takes priority over recreational activities. And then the 6 months of misery start. :)
