"This [short IMDB technical entry](http://akas.imdb.com/title...) says *Gravity* used [Arriflex Alexa](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...) 2880×2160 cameras recording onto [Codex](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...) and distributes in Digital Cinema 2K (plus 3D). Since Gravity wasn't filmed in 70mm IMAX or IMAX 3D, this larger format couldn't show more detail, unless Warner distributes IMAX 3D from a different digital master. [Cinemark's trailer](http://cinemark.com/gravity...) tags “RealD 3D” and “IMAX 3D”, but nothing else i've found even hints at a special IMAX master. Also, James Cameron neither produced nor directed the movie. I inferred incorrectly from the NPR review."
