"The Clay Mathematics Institute has no plans for the Millennium Prize funds other than to respectfully wait for Dr. Perelman's decision. No deadline has been fixed for his decision, and nothing has been said or will be said about the possible use of the funds. Please see the text and laudations below for what is truly important:...
... Dr. Perelman's great gift of a solution to the century-old conjecture of Henri Poincaré, as well as Thurston's geometrization conjecture. Their solution was celebrated at a conference in Paris held June 8-9, 2010 with the Institut Henri Poincaré. Those present send their congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Perelman." - "Note. "Apologetics for a prize", gibi sanki: "The idea was not to give incentives to mathematicians to work harder. We do not need that. Nor was it to make mathematics more exciting for mathematicians. That too was unnecessary. Rather it was to record for posterity the great unsolved problems left over from the twentieth century. It served also to make mathematics more exciting for the non-mathematical world. In particular, it served and it still serves as a beacon to attract young people, children and students, to the ongoing excitement of mathematics and mathematical problems." - mkz
Kesif metaforu: "When, after many years of exploration, pioneers reach the foothills, the ascent looks formidable or impossible. Initial attempts lead to dead-ends [or] a return to the starting point. Explorations pack up and go home and prepare to tackle lesser heights. But some mountaineers do not give up." - mkz
"Perelman's aversion to public spectacle and to riches is mystifying to many. I have not talked to him about it and I can certainly not speak for him, but I want to say I have complete empathy and admiration for his inner strength and clarity, to be able to know and hold true to himself." - mkz
"[T]here is a unique and romantic quality of his work. In modern mathematics, as in other endeavours, much progress is collaborative; either in the literal sense or, more generally, in developments driven by resonance between the ideas of different workers. Perelman's achievement is a testament to the continued power of the individual human mind in bringing about the most fundamental advances in mathematics." - Boyle denmis, ama aslinda Perelman kolaborasyon yapmak istemis, bizzat gidip yaptigi ispatin catisini kuran Hamilton'la konusmaya calismis diye hatirliyorum. Bu romantiklestirme egilimine karsi temkinli yaklasmak lazim belki. Uykum olmasa daha yazacagim bu konuda. - mkz
Clay'den yeni aciklama: "Note: July 1, 2010. On June 8-9 CMI held a conference in Paris to celebrate the resolution of the Poincaré conjecture by Grigoriy Perelman. Dr. Perelman has subsequently informed us that he has decided not to accept the one million dollar prize. In the fall of 2010, CMI will make an announcement of how the prize money will be used to benefit mathematics." http://www.claymath.org/ - mkz
Parayi ne icin kullanacaklarina karar vermisler: "The Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI, Cambridge, Massachusetts) and the Institut Henri Poincaré (IHP, Paris) announced at a press conference today the establishment of the Poincaré Chair, a postdoctoral position for mathematicians in the early stages of their career. Those named to the chair will hold their position at the Institut Henri Poincaré for a term of six months to one year. The Chair is financed for a period of five years with the Clay Millennium Prize funds for resolution of the Poincaré conjecture. The conjecture was solved in the affirmative by Grigoriy Perelman, for which he was awarded the Millennium Prize in 2010. Dr. Perelman subsequently declined to accept the prize money." - http://www.claymath.org/ - mkz
