When it's time to purchase a bed (full size, w/ boxspring, no frame needed), where do you start your searching? Stores, Online, Catalogs, back alley, a guy with a big truck parked down the street? It's been a long time since I've purchased a new bed, so I'm pretty much clueless. Your FF advice would be most appreciated!
We got ours from Sleep Train. I think anywhere with lots of different beds that you can test out should work fine (i.e. a place that has normal, Sleep Number, and Tempurpedic beds so you can compare the three competing bed ideologies :)

We still have a mattress company here in Hawaii. Not that's gonna help you now, but still. That's how I'd go about it. Maybe also check out furniture stores and play on their beds and look at the brand. My current mattress was bought at the furniture shop I got my frame from.

We visited many stores. We went with Rooms to Go - it was an entire bedroom set. If it's a bed you have to test it out.

I very much DON'T love my no-name memory foam mattress from Costco. (It has deep permanent divots where I've been sleeping. It's hard not to roll off now.) Wish I'd gotten a Tempurpedic instead. I'd be looking to see if Consumer Reports has done a rating of mattresses and if they had advice for buying one.

We ended up buying a bed from a store in Reseda - it was for my kid, an my ex-wife did the searching and eventual purchasing. it came to 470 with tax, delivered, for a full size mattress, box spring and metal frame thingee. I paid for half. My kid seems stoked about it, but it's not being delivered until Thursday. I'll post a follow up review once I have it from her. Thanks everyone for your input. You all rock.

Look at all the ratings you want, but ask yourself this: if CR said adidas made the best shoes, but adidas hurt your feet, would you buy adidas? Buy a bed based on what feels good to you, and suits your needs and budget.

I would suggest trying a few beds, and when you find a couple that seem right, then check CR to see what they have to say about the quality of the models you like. Or just get a Sleep Number bed and you don't have to worry about it ;)
