RT @thenation: If Congress Passes Obama’s War Request, It Authorizes Operations in All These Countries http://thenat.in/1AdtwFt http://t.co/DE7KE42GRE
Sovereignty must be an outdated concept. - Mo Kargas
Unfortunately, the US government has been haphazard about respecting sovereignty for centuries now. :( But to put the shoe on the other foot, if you were running a government and a decentralized terrorist organization not only said it was going to target your country and your nationals but actually followed through on that repeatedly, what approach would you take? I'm asking this seriously, not as a rhetorical question. (I've asked myself as well.) - Spidra Webster
Support local efforts. Algerians have been fighting terrorists for hundreds of years, including Islamists and the French. Unilateral attacks on sovereign soil are just going to legitimize IS. Also lets be real, ISIS is tiny, at least at the moment. A unified government in any one of the marked countries and a broad effort could wipe them out. However, in the case of Syria and Libya they are being undermined by national and international forces. I'm also concerned that Morocco hasn't been added to this list. They've been flooding Algeria with drugs and drug criminals for years, and that funds terrorism directly. All I'm seeing is IS being used to legitimize an endless war doctrine that began in Afghanistan/Iraq. All it will do is further radicalize the world - Mo Kargas
last i read, we're already operating in many of those countries but just not advertising it. disturbing. - Big Joe Silenced
This whole "world police" shtick isn't working out. Yeah, terrorists are bad and kill lots of innocent people. But state forces kill a hell of a lot more. You can ask the Iraqi's or Algerians about that. - Mo Kargas
Thanks, Mo. - Spidra Webster
Joe, I got the impression this was more about going for formal authorization after several Presidential administrations *not* getting Congressional authorizations for various "police actions". - Spidra Webster
