The problem is that there’s lots of evidence that gentrification doesn’t benefit low-income people. The new arrivals mark the beginning of higher rent and offer no quick promises for better education. I've seen anecdotes about how "cleaning up the neighborhood" benefitted current residents, or people saying that the new storefronts brought in more jobs (ignoring that they often replaced other businesses that had just as many employees.) - Jennifer Dittrich
