"Telling a creationist that evolution is not anti-religious, just his brand of it, isn't much of a negotiating strategy. After all, our numerous present day Christian denominations don't speak well of Christians having dealt well with differences in belief. Many Christians cannot imagine their religion without creation as the creation story is foundational to their belief in the origin of sin on Earth and hence, why Jesus had to die. A world without a beginning in creation is one born "red in tooth and claw" and not as a sinless, perfect world. Rather than sin destroying an idyllic garden, a beginning in evolution has God revealing himself to a violent and ignorant primitive people. Jesus' death is not a reconciliation of a broken relationship caused by sin. The Bible, rather than being an infallible handbook of history and law becomes an account of man's attempt to understand God, leaving wide open the issue that if any of it is in error, all could be.
