I don't do music on my smartphone anymore it's all in the cloud (Google Music). Last time I checked it was apps that took up most of my space.

^ this. I had a few that were just gorging on space - once I reformatted my phone (bad upgrade,) even after restoring and downloading all of my old apps, I'd regained about 2 GB of space from... somewhere.

Same here. It's ridiculous how much some apps bloat on updates.
