"I'm gonna be cynical here and say Linux will never be ready for the desktop. It's written by a committee of people so it never has one clear vision, everyone has their own idea of what is good.
And that's fine, it encourages innovation and results in new and exciting things being developed.
But it means it will never be ready for the desktop, it will never be consistent, it will never be properly 'easy to use' and it will never have direction. Look at Ubuntu and all the changes they make to their UI all the time.
I believe every OS has its use. Linux is great for servers and embedded systems. OS X is great for daily use and Getting Things Done (because it's just a joy to use). Windows is great for playing games, Getting Work Done, and daily use (but OS X is better).
On a meta point. I recommend using Disqus for comments rather than WordPress itself :)"
