"I've been using Google services on my iPhone since it became available and have had frustrations several times over the last 5-years. Also, been syncing calendars and contacts since Palm OS in the mid-90s and so quite familiar with the joys and frustrations. When EAS was removed for new phones/accounts, I decided to go ahead and give CalDAV and CardDAV a try since I work on two Mac computers, an iPad, and an iPhone with 5-10 calendars and two contact sources (work and home) and I'm primarily in the Google landscape for mail/contacts/calendar. I think that the contacts and the mail syncs pretty flawlessly and I don't find myself troubled by any of it's actions. However, I do flip between the Google app and the Mail app on my iPhone throughout the day. As you've pointed out, the calendar has some nuances that can lead to frustration.
