Made from corn sugar, Susterra® propanediol serves as deicing and heat transfer fluids and as a base for engine coolants where stability over a range of temperatures. In polymer applications, Susterra® propanediol serves in polyester-based resins and as a cross linker in urethane plastics. Two new products using its unique properties, DuPont™ Sorona® and DuPont™ Cerenol™ now find use in automotive applications, engineering polymers, fibers and coatings. For deicing, Susterra® propanediol provides low toxicity and biodegradability. It delivers excellent freeze point depression for aqueous solution applications that require freeze protection. As anti-freeze, it improves heat stability and corrodes less than other propylene glycol and ethylene glycol formulas, resulting in longer engine life.
