"I like to note that the US at least already has a basic income program in the form of Social Security, and it's very very popular. The simplest and probably easiest path forward would be a campaign for "Universal Social Security", which can be achieved incrementally. Say by gradually lowering the eligibility age.
The biggest problem with that approach would be a public that's bought into the idea that social security is going broke, and it would be easy for opponents to paint expansion as bankrupting the program, and there'd be no way around raising taxes on someone somewhere to pay for it.
But we could at the very least draw lessons from the history of how that program was created and implemented."
