@psnively I guess I need to write a large program that only uses FP to really be sure myself.
@psnively so are you now against the use of objects for 'programming in the large'?
Does anyone know whether the new Google Chrome Beta for Mac has the autoupdate feature, or will we have to download a new one later?
@jensmccabe Glad you found it helpful! Your projects are cool, and it was a fun conversation.

"I am not referring to the general google updater that comes with the google pack. I mean the silent autoupdate that chrome for windows has." - Robin Barooah

Short Chat Server in Clojure - http://news.ycombinator.com/item...
"They don't look very comparable to me. Unless I'm mistaken, the clojure one communicates with telnet clients who maintain a socket connect, but only relies on the basic libraries which ship with clojure. The scala one is a webapp that is sitting on top of a lot of specialized machinery provided by lift. They are both short chat applications in the new cool languages on the JVM, but other than that they don't seem very comparable to me." - Robin Barooah
@jorgeortiz85 Aha - I'm glad you said that. sbt is next on my list of things to look at.
@jorgeortiz85 would like to hear if there's love. I hate to say it, but the whole ide/compiler pain has been pushing me towards clojure.
@jorgeortiz85 Do you know that you actually like IntelliJ better, or is that just the next one to try?
@jorgeortiz85 what killed eclipse for you?
@accarmichael Nice - I love the synergy stuff, but I'm thinking about starting home brewing after reading seth's articles lately.
@accarmichael did you ferment the kombucha yourself?

Guns don't kill people. Ideas do.
No. Ideas are powerless without a mind to engage, enforce, propagate them. People kill people. - Mo Kargas
hmmm... I believe that that capacity, like consciousness itself, is something that can be developed, or not, depending on the opportunities and efforts of the individual. That doesn't mean that I think that some people are less responsible for their actions than others - just that some people are more limited in their choices because they are not aware of alternative perspectives. - Robin Barooah
I love the scala programming language, but the pain of compilation is spoiling it for me.

"Fantastic read. I love the way he charts the ups and downs in his personal motivation. It's a great reminder to be persistent." - Robin Barooah
"I found it an interesting read. I especially liked the sentiment, "An organization that wins by exercising power starts to lose the ability to win by doing better work.", which I firmly believe. However I don't see how PG shows that Apple is somehow winning by exercising power. Can someone clarify this? PG even? I don't hear any explanation of how their exercise of power is helping them win." - Robin Barooah

@stevedekorte The author of isolator has been pretty helpful to me. He might respond well to a feature request.
@stevedekorte have you tried 'isolator'? It will fade or blur the background windows.
Earthships! - sara
Yes! Have you been there? - Robin Barooah
Nope-- but I have read a lot about earthships (and other 'handmade' building techniques). Did you go inside any? What did you think-- ready to grab some tires and go off grid? - sara
I went inside the 'visitor center' which is itself and earthship. It was pretty impressive. I also spent some time doing mud plasterwork at the zen refugue, so yes - I was quite inspired, although it's probably easier in NM than in the Bay Area. - Robin Barooah
Vacation in NM was amazing. Coming home to a bright sunny day and the smell of the ocean in the bay area, just as good!
Skinny dipping in the rio grande :-)
Very nice. We were actually in some hot springs that outlet into the river, and only spent a few seconds in the actual (ice cold) rio grande. - Robin Barooah
